5 Coolest hidden Chrome settings in Android that you might not know about

The Android version of Google's Chrome browser is now installed on anywhere between 500 million and 1 billion devices, making it by far the most popular mobile browser in existence. There are a few reasons it's so popular, and while some of them have nothing to do with how good it is (e.g., Google requires its partners to pre-install it on their devices).

Chrome has literally dozens of features (many of which quite technical), I only shortlisted 5 features that can actually be of use to you when browsing the web. Check them out.

1. Enable Reader Mode

Appearances can be deceiving! For example, did you know that Chrome actually has a dedicated Reader mode? Yep, you only need to know where to look to activate it. In case you don't know what a Reader mode is, it basically eliminates all non-essential content surrounding an article (or whatever piece), like toolbars, ads, and such, and allows you to focus on it entirely.

To activate it, first type chrome://flags/#enable-reader-mode-toolbar-icon in the address bar, and then click Enable. You'll be prompted to restart Chrome (bottom), and you'll have to do it. After that, when beer an article can be read through Reader mode, and icon such as on the image to your left will pop up next to your tab switcher.

2. Instant Search Results

This is one of my favorites – a hidden option in that same menu full of experimental features lets Chrome serve you answers to basic questions right in the suggestion box! As shown, Chrome instantly returned an answer to my question "What is the capital of Tamilnadu" – Chennai. Cool!

To activate this, go to chrome://flags/#answers-in-suggest and select "Enabled" from the drop-down menu. Relaunch Chrome.

3. Browse Faster

Another experimental feature can theoretically boost your browsing speed by up to 300 ms. What it does is simply disable click delay, meaning that any links that you try to open will immediately start loading, instead of the default behavior, which means waiting for a while so that Chrome can make sure you weren't trying to double tap in order to zoom in and out. And yes, this does mean that you have to be careful not to tap on links if you zoom in and out that way.

To disable click delay, go to chrome://flags/#disable-click-delay and click Enable. Relaunch Chrome.

4. Search Faster

Another hidden feature allows you to get to results served by Google Search faster. What it does is load essential assets in parallel to a page you clicked, theoretically saving you anywhere between 100 and 150 ms. It's not much, but every bit counts!

To enable it, go to chrome://flags/#enable-instant-search-clicks and click Enable. Relaunch Chrome.

5. Hover

Last in my list is a feature that will work on smartphones that ave touchscreens that can tell when you hover your finger over them, even if you're not actually touching them - like Samsung's Galaxy Note line. If enabled, this feature allows you to replicate a desktop browser's basic mouse-over functionality - you hover your finger over an active element, and it'll either create a tooltip or to do something else. This can be handy for websites that aren't optimized for mobile usage and have categories and menus that only appear on mouse-over.

To enable this, go to chrome://flags/#enable-touch-hover and click Enable. Relaunch Chrome.

How to fix a loose Micro-USB cable

Almost everyone has a smartphone or another device that connects with a Micro USB cable. And almost everyone has had a cable become loose over time and not fit securely. It can be disgusting to have the cable drop out a the slightest movement or to head endless pings from your computer telling you the cable disconnected. Rather than throw out a cable and get a new one, here’s a simple 5-min fix that can restore your cable back to new (or at least make it stay put). On most Micro USB cables there are a pair of metal tabs on one side. The problem is that over time these tabs can be flattened. When that happens the USB cable will be come loose unless the port is particularly tight. The way to fix this is to raise the tabs and then fold them over, making for a tighter and sturdier fit. The first thing we need to do is to raise the tabs. My friend used a precision flat screwdriver to lift the tabs as pictured below. You want to be careful doing this. While the tabs are meta
